Opportunities to Serve - Ministries


Macedonia’s ministries are designed to cultivate spiritual growth and development, both individually and collectively.  They seek to encourage holy living in all areas of our lives, whether we are male or female, young or old, married or single.  It is also through our ministries that we seek the salvation of the lost and minister to the needs of others through outreach.  The ultimate goal of every ministry of Macedonia is to win souls to Christ.

Every Macedonia member at least four years of age automatically falls under one of the following ministries:

Description/Purpose:
The Christian Education Ministry helps people of all ages to gain knowledge and understanding of the Word of God through Sunday School, Bible Study, and other learning opportunities.

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is to develop in all participants a firm spiritual foundation whereby their can apply God’s Word to their own lives.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION MINISTRY

Description/Purpose:
The Christian Education Ministry helps people of all ages to gain knowledge and understanding of the Word of God through Sunday School, Bible Study, and other learning opportunities.

Daughters of Virtue (girls ages 13 to 18)

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12 NIV)

Description/Purpose:
The purpose of the Daughters of Virtue is to encourage teenage girls to serve God in every aspect of their lives, to grow spiritually, and to succeed in their spiritual walk with Christ. This ministry teaches and encourages the participants to strengthen their faith, live balanced lives, and develop positive relationships with others.

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is to cultivate an environment conducive for teenage girls to develop into Christian womanhood and Godly leaders of tomorrow.

HOSPITALITY MINISTRY

“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)

Description/Purpose:
The word hospitality means “the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers.” The Hospitality Ministry accomplishes this by using their culinary skills to serve God’s people while promoting a warm and welcoming environment of hospitality and fellowship.

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is to show the love of Jesus Christ to the people they serve.

JOSHUA GENERATION (boys ages 13 to 18)

“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” (1 Corinthians 13:11 NIV)

Description/Purpose:
Being a teenager is a confusing stage to navigate in a person’s life, especially for young men. As they continue to mature, they are constantly trying to define themselves and are accepted or rejected based on those things which define them. The Joshua Generation seeks to help young men through this ever-important process. Through topic-based and open discussion, as well as inspirational experiences, this ministry will address a plethora of real-life scenarios, while developing a solid understanding of what the Bible tells us as to how we should handle these things.

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is to cultivate an environment conducive for teenage boys to develop into Christian manhood and Godly leaders of tomorrow.

MEN’S FELLOWSHIP

“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1 AMP)

Description/Purpose:
The Men’s Fellowship will seek to actively pursue men in order to win, grow, and train God’s man in Christ. This will be accomplished through instruction, open discussions, and fellowship. The men will pray for, encourage, and hold each other accountable. “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion].” (Proverbs 27:17 AMP)

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is for the men to be all that they are called to be in God’s Kingdom.

MISSIONS MINISTRY

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”  (Hebrews 13:16 NIV)

Description/Purpose:
The purpose of the Missions Ministry is to endeavor to meet the identified needs in our community. This is done by feeding the hungry, providing toiletries and other necessities to shelters as well as individuals in need, visiting nursing homes and/or assisted living facilities, and partnering with other ministries or organizations to run food and clothing drives on a larger scale.

Goal:

The goal of this ministry is to establish or strengthen Macedonia’s relationship with the Anacostia community and beyond through generous giving.

Multimedia Ministry

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 NIV)

Description/Purpose:
The purpose of the Multimedia Ministry is to carry out the Great Commission. This is accomplished by skillfully utilizing audio/visual tools and social media to facilitate the broadcast of the preached Word of God, Bible-based classes, and other ministry events. This ministry supports in-person services and ministry events by providing sound engineering and facilitating praise/worship musical sets for services and events as needed. The Multimedia Ministry also produces social media content (graphics and video content) on all of Macedonia’s social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) and ensures that services and ministry events are broadcast live as scheduled.

Goal:
The ultimate goal of this ministry is to further spread the Gospel through accessibility. This ministry endeavors to provide opportunities for everyone to gain knowledge of and access to worship experiences, classes, and other ministry events through the use of various media and social media platforms.

MUSIC MINISTRY

“Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of His faithful people.” (Psalm 149:1 NIV)

Description/Purpose:
The purpose of the Music Ministry is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through song, lead the congregation in worship and praise, and help set the atmosphere for the preached Word of God.

The goal of this ministry is to usher God’s people into His presence.

SECURITY MINISTRY

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” (Ephesians 6:11 NIV) 

Description/Purpose:
The purpose of the Security Ministry is to provide a safe and secure environment for worship. This ministry provides security both in and around the church building and grounds during services and events, alerts church officials to safety issues and concerns, and makes recommendations concerning security policies and procedures.

Goal:
The goals of this ministry are to be familiar with federal, state, and local ordinances that relate to church activities operating in a safe environment; to be aware of new ordinances that impact church safety measures; and to identify potential liabilities that could adversely affect the safety and security of church operations and activities.

Sons of David (boys ages 4 to 12)

“Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14 NIV)

Description/Purpose:
Boys need to see men who follow Jesus. The Sons of David is led by men who believe in and follow Jesus Christ. The purpose of this ministry is not only to groom young boys to become great young men, but to also mentor young boys so that they may someday become powerful men of God. This is accomplished by modeling appropriate behavior in front of the boys, instructing them in the practical and spiritual aspects of growing up, and creating learning opportunities through constructive outings and activities.

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is for the boys to develop a strong Christian walk and Christian character.

USHER MINISTRY

“Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.” (Psalm 84:10 NIV)

Description/Purpose:
The purpose of the Usher Ministry is to greet everyone who enters God’s house with a welcoming demeanor. This ministry is also primarily responsible for offering directions for seating at services, distributing giving envelopes and handouts, providing instructions to congregants during times of giving, and assisting members and visitors alike, as appropriate.

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is to display the love of God as they serve God’s people. Because an usher is one of the first people one encounters when entering the house of God, this ministry seeks to help set the tone for the congregant’s overall worship experience.

WINNING SOULS TO CHRIST

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.” (Proverbs 11:30 NKJV)

Description/Purpose:
The Winning Souls To Christ Ministry seeks to help bring lost souls to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Using the Roman’s Road to Salvation and the presentation of the Gospel, souls may be compelled to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is to disciple believers on their Christian walk, so that they, in turn, will disciple others.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

“Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the Word of God.” (Titus 2:3-5 NIV)

Description/Purpose:
The Women’s Ministry is comprised of every woman who is a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. This ministry helps women to (1) realize the God-given purpose for their lives; (2) grow and mature in Jesus Christ through teachings, fellowships, and activities; (3) discover their spiritual gifts and equip and empower them to use their gifts in the household of faith; and (4) forge new Christian friendships with other women.

Goal:
The goals of this ministry are to (1) cultivate a sense of community among the women in the church, (2) strengthen the women’s relationships with God and with each other; (3) help women reach their full potential as believers; and (4) encourage women as they encounter the challenges of their daily Christian walk.

YOUNG DAUGHTERS OF VIRTUE (girls ages 4 to 12)

Description/Purpose:
The Young Daughters of Virtue engages its participants in meaningful activities that encourage spiritual growth, emotional integrity, and social engagement.

Goal:
The goal of this ministry is to cultivate young girls to become “virtuous” young ladies and encourage them to exemplify the fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance) in their daily lives.
